Amber X
Owner Reviews
Great Product!
I have a billion pictures just sitting on my phone because I'm too scared of losing them so this product is perfect! A great way to get free up storage on my phone while making sure that I still have easy access to all of my photos. Definitely recommend.
Great Alternative to Storing Data in "the Cloud"
If you’re hesitant about storing your data in “the cloud”, the Amber X is a great alternative. It’s an easy-to-set-up home based cloud data backup for all your smart devices. You own all your data and there’s no membership required. Plus, it’s safe, secure and private!
Limited functionality, doesn't support reading files for word, excel etc.
When uploaded photos from phone etc. It make a few hundred folders with dates and one picture in each file folder. Not sure why they put one picture in one folder. In another directory it seems I can load a series of pictures in one folder. This is made only for photo viewing and saving and nothing else. When on PC and want to add a file then shows D drive for example but my directory I call Download does not show up in their file utility. Then it has a Windows file manager and the directory shows up with the files so found the file but has to be drag and drop to load. The application is unable to see Excel files until it is loaded and the phone of pc app is unable to open either Word or Excel files to view. It seems to only open PDF files to read. Very high priced for something that does not act like a cloud server when it can save and view files other than photos. Although they designed this just for photos it should be able to see and save other files since it is based on cloud technology. Menu structure different from PC and phone and phone does not show directory that PC shows. Also upload photo to a directory from PC and said it loaded ok but the picture was nowhere to be found unless it uploaded to and unknown location. For PC "My Amber" shows home, my devices, my documents, uploads. For phone "My Amber" shows My Albums, People & things, files, shared by me, manage Amber X. Totally different directory structure making things difficult to load in a know location. Also only one directory showed up and PC had the 2 directories I made and 2 showed up. Lots of other strange user interface problems that cannot be traced to what I loaded on the PC, and the other way around. Lots of other problems. This is not a cloud device but seems like just a local drive that has a difficult user interface and unable to display common files like Word or Excel etc.
After 3 weeks of usage, indexing the photos and videos are taking forever.
It’s a more reliable product than WD Mycloud.
