Great back up storage

May 10, 2022

I just got this to back up my 21,000 photos and I’m very impressed. It started right up with no extra steps needed. Once I started copying files over I was pleasantly surprised to see how fast it works. Great external hard drive!

This product really solves 2 problems and just makes life easier. Both covers my lack of storage on my phone and stores it in a safe place and also makes it super easy to share my content, photos etc. absolutely love it and can recommend.

While the device isn’t the lightest, it is extremely easy to use and holds so many of my photos as well as videos. I highly recommend if you are looking for a device to store all of your memories-without filling up your phones storage space.

What privacy?? Don’t believe the hype!

I purchased Amber X believing the marketing hype I read and reviews I checked. I thought wow how refreshing to see a company put privacy of consumers first and mean it! I was sorely disappointed when setting up Amber X I read their company privacy statement you have to agree to. The following is just a small sample of how “private” they are.“ t & Log in InformationWhen you register an account to access and use the Amber Platform you are required to provide us your email address. In addition, when you access your account you provide us your log in ID and password and/or other security codes. You may also provide us with voluntary information, for example, your first and last name, and certain preferences (e.g., language preferences).User Content and InformationWe collect the content and other information, for example photos and documents, you provide when you use our Products and Applications. They even state somewhere in the depths of their privacy policy that their employees can access your content at any time they want.I’m sorry I fell for what amounts to lies in their marketing but after reading their company policy this product is anything but focused on keeping your data private. Do not buy!

Always running out of storage on my phone

I’m always running out of storage on my phone so I really like I’m able to easily upload photos I want to keep. It really is easy to use and setup. Blends in with our other devices so it’s aesthetically appealing as well. Not too big or bulky.

I take a lot of photos and videos for IG and TT and I constantly have to pay for cloud storage. This device makes it so that I don’t have to pay for those subscription based cloud storage platforms and just upload to this device

Really great entry level NAS

This is a really great entry level NAS for anyone who wants to have a NAS but doesn’t want to deal with all the admin that comes with a lot of NAS systems.

Out of the box, this device just works - I wouldn’t say it’s easy enough for your mom to use, but if you know what an ip address is you can probably figure this thing out. It automatically creates web access + smb access, and sets up a secure username and password for you that is shared across both places.

You can also choose to encrypt the disk when you first set it up, if you are worried about the device itself getting stolen with sensitive data.

In a recent update they have unlocked the ability to use this as a Home Assistant server and a Plex server. I have set up the Plex side of that, and it works perfectly- can handle multiple direct play streams to my Apple TV, iPad, and computer at the same time. Not a huge surprise, since the hardware in here is more powerful that Synologys, WD, Qnaps, etc. that are twice the price.

I don’t personally use this for photo backup, but the app makes it easy enough to set that up.

All in all, if you want an easy to maintain NAS that that’s relatively affordable - and you don’t need many TBs of redundant data (i.e. if the built in 512GB + an external drive is enough for you) then this is hard to beat.

It's a personal cloud for my photos & files

Love: personal cloud access to files. Hate: how difficult it is to sort or manage, having to bypass the dashboard to try to save to my backup harddrive.

Convenient

Works as expected. I needed cloud without subscription, without hassle over configuring the device or worrying about security. The best part is being able to expand how much it can hold so you wouldn’t need to buy another one of these or be shoved onto a subscription when space runs out.
